8. The DeskCamera Window at a Glance

Use this article to learn the parts of the DeskCamera window.

Open the window

Click the tray icon (the DeskCamera icon next to the clock), or press Ctrl+Alt+D. If you do not see the tray icon, click ^ next to the clock.

Click a section name to open it. About shows your DeskCamera version.

Camera Settings

  • IP Address: the address of this PC that the NVR/VMS (the recording system) connects to.
  • Camera Mode: Multiple channels (one camera, one channel per source) or Multiple cameras (one camera per source).
  • ONVIF User and password: the login that the NVR/VMS needs. It is not your Windows password. The eye button shows the password.
  • Prevent Win sleep and Watchdog keep the camera running. See Keep the Camera Running: Watchdog and Prevent Win Sleep.
  • Start and Stop start and stop the camera. The line under them shows Offline, or Started Cameras and the number of cameras.
  • Configure in Browser opens the DeskCamera page in your web browser.
  • Safely close RDP (only in a Remote Desktop session) ends the session and keeps the camera streaming.

To change them, click Stop. When you are done, click Start.

A lock and Unlock Settings mean that the settings are locked for all Windows users on this PC. See A Setting Is Gray or Cannot Be Changed.

Hide or close the window

  • To hide the window, minimize it. DeskCamera keeps running, and you open it again from the tray icon. If an App Password is set, DeskCamera locks.

  • Closing the window stops the camera. DeskCamera asks you to confirm. Click No to keep the camera running.
