Frequently Asked Question
DeskCamera 6.0.0 adds Configure in Browser. This lets you manage DeskCamera from a web browser on another computer in the same local network.
With Configure in Browser you can check running DeskCamera cameras, edit supported camera settings, manage the ONVIF camera login, view NVR connection details, and open a live video preview.
Install Remote Control
During DeskCamera installation, keep Install DeskCamera Remote Control service enabled. This component is required for Configure in Browser.
Open Configure in Browser
1) Start DeskCamera on the PC where the camera is running.
2) Click Configure in Browser.
3) If the link is disabled, open Options and make sure Enable Browser is enabled.
Create the Remote Control password
The first password must be created directly on the DeskCamera PC. This password protects browser access to DeskCamera Remote Control.
Create a password with at least 8 characters and sign in.
Open from another computer
After the password is created, Remote Control shows the addresses that can be used from another computer. Open one of those addresses in a browser on another PC in the same local network or trusted VPN.
If the browser shows a security warning, continue only if the address belongs to your DeskCamera PC.
Select a camera
After signing in, Remote Control shows the DeskCamera cameras running on the PC. In Per-user mode, cameras from different Windows users can appear separately.
Manage camera settings
Open a camera to start, stop, or restart it, change supported media-source settings, and view the ONVIF and RTSP connection details used by your NVR/VMS.
Use the ONVIF Camera Login section to update the username or password used by ONVIF clients.
Watch live preview
Click Preview for a media source to watch video in the browser. Browser preview may be a few seconds behind real time. For the lowest latency, connect your NVR/VMS directly to the RTSP URL shown on the page.
Change the browser access port
Open Settings > Network access to view the addresses for other devices and to change the HTTPS port used by Configure in Browser.
Firewall and network access
If DeskCamera was installed with the Windows Firewall option enabled, no extra firewall setup is usually required.
If your firewall is managed manually, allow incoming TCP connections to the Remote Control port shown in Settings > Network access.
For more details, see Ports used by DeskCamera and Configuring firewall rules.
Multi-user mode
In Shared mode, Remote Control manages one DeskCamera camera for the whole PC. In Per-user mode, each logged-in Windows user can have a separate camera.
If Lock Settings is enabled, locked settings cannot be changed by individual users. For details, see Camera Instance Mode and Lock Settings.
Troubleshooting
Configure in Browser is missing
The Remote Control component may not be installed. Run the DeskCamera installer again and install the Remote Control service component.
The remote browser says setup is required
Create the first Remote Control password directly on the DeskCamera PC first.
No DeskCamera cameras are shown
Make sure DeskCamera is running. If this happens immediately after installing or upgrading, update DeskCamera to a newer version or restart DeskCamera.
The page cannot be reached from another computer
Check that both computers are on the same local network or trusted VPN, and confirm that the address and port match Settings > Network access.
Remote Control is an administration page. Use it only on a trusted local network or trusted VPN. If you need live feed access from outside the local network, see Configuring the Internet access to DeskCamera live feed with UPnP port mapping.
