Frequently Asked Question

NVR/VMS Asks for a Username or Password
Last Updated 2 days ago

Use this article if your NVR/VMS finds DeskCamera but asks for a username or password, or rejects the username or password you entered.

Use the ONVIF camera login

The NVR/VMS uses the ONVIF camera login configured in DeskCamera.

This is not the same as your Windows login. It is also not necessarily the same as the DeskCamera app password or browser management password.

Where to check or change it

1) Open DeskCamera browser management.

2) Select the DeskCamera camera.

3) Find the ONVIF Camera Login section.

4) Check the username, or enter a new password and save it.

5) Use that username and password when adding DeskCamera to the NVR/VMS.

If the NVR/VMS saved the wrong password

Many NVR/VMS systems remember the first username and password entered for a camera. If the wrong credentials were saved, remove DeskCamera from the NVR/VMS and add it again with the correct ONVIF camera login.

If you forgot the password

Open DeskCamera on the PC, set a new ONVIF camera password, and then update the NVR/VMS. If the NVR/VMS does not accept the new password, remove and add the camera again.

For browser management, see Managing DeskCamera from a Web Browser.

For app password protection, see Protect DeskCamera with an App Password.

If you changed only the capitalization of the password

If the NVR/VMS stops connecting after a password change where only uppercase or lowercase letters changed, update DeskCamera to a newer version. Then save the camera login again and update the password in the NVR/VMS. If the NVR/VMS still rejects it, remove DeskCamera from the NVR/VMS and add it again.
