Frequently Asked Question
Use this article if DeskCamera cannot add an external RTSP or HTTP video source, or if the source test fails.
Check that you have the video stream URL
External sources need a direct video stream URL. It usually starts with rtsp://, http://, or https://.
Do not use the camera web page address unless the camera documentation says that address is the video stream URL.
Test the source outside DeskCamera
1) Test the same URL in the camera vendor software or another video player that supports RTSP or HTTP streams.
2) If the source needs a username and password, confirm that the same username and password work outside DeskCamera.
3) Make sure the DeskCamera PC can reach the camera, device, or server that provides the stream.
Try again in DeskCamera
Open DeskCamera, add the external source again, and use the connection test in the source dialog before saving.
If the source works outside DeskCamera but still cannot be added, update DeskCamera to a newer version and try again.
For RTSP sources, see Convert an External RTSP Stream to ONVIF.
For HTTP sources, see Convert an HTTP Video Stream to ONVIF.
If you contact support, include the source type, the error message shown by DeskCamera, and the DeskCamera log files.
For logs, see Collecting DeskCamera Log Files.
