Frequently Asked Question
Use this article if the NVR/VMS connects to an old DeskCamera address, or if DeskCamera shows the address of a VPN, Hyper-V, virtual adapter, or another network adapter.
Choose the correct address in DeskCamera
1) Go to the Windows PC where DeskCamera is installed.
2) Open DeskCamera.
3) In Camera Settings, open the IP Address list.
4) Choose the IP address that belongs to the same local network as the NVR/VMS.
5) Stop and start the DeskCamera camera.
If you are not sure which address to choose, ask your network administrator or compare it with the NVR/VMS address. In many local networks, both addresses start with the same numbers, for example 192.168.1..
Update the NVR/VMS if it still uses the old address
Some NVR/VMS systems keep using the old camera address after DeskCamera changes address. If that happens, remove DeskCamera from the NVR/VMS and add it again.
Common causes
- The PC received a new IP address from the router.
- A VPN or virtual network adapter was active when DeskCamera started.
- The physical network adapter was not ready immediately after Windows startup.
- The NVR/VMS still has the old DeskCamera address saved.
DeskCamera handles temporary network changes more reliably after recent updates. If this problem happens repeatedly, update DeskCamera to a newer version.
