Frequently Asked Question
Use this article when you need to choose how DeskCamera creates direct RTSP URLs for screen and webcam streams.
Most users should keep the default RTSP URL naming style and copy the RTSP URL shown by DeskCamera. See How to Retrieve Direct RTSP URLs for DeskCamera Streams.
Before changing this setting
Changing the RTSP URL naming style can change the URL used by an NVR/VMS, video player, or other system. If the stream was already added by direct RTSP URL, update the URL in that system or add the stream again.
Default
This is recommended for most setups. The URL uses the DeskCamera stream/profile name.
For screen sources, DeskCamera keeps the stream tied to the Windows display number where possible, such as Display 1 or Display 2 in Windows Display settings. This helps the same screen stream stay recognizable after display reconnects or Windows display-name changes.

DevicePath
The URL uses the device path reported by Windows for the screen or webcam. This can be useful only when you have a specific compatibility reason or DeskCamera support asks you to use it. The URL is less readable and can change if Windows reports the device differently.

Numeric
The URL uses a short source number, such as screen1 or webcam0. This is easy to type, but the number can change when sources or display order changes. For screen streams, do not use this number to guess the Windows Display settings number. Always copy the current URL shown by DeskCamera.

How to change the naming style
1) Open DeskCamera.
2) Stop the camera if it is running.
3) Open Options > General.
4) Change the RTSP URL naming option for screens or webcams.
5) Start the camera again.
6) Open the camera details and copy the current RTSP URL.
When to check the URL again
Check the current RTSP URL after changing camera mode, changing ONVIF or RTSP ports, enabling or disabling media sources, plugging or unplugging a webcam, or changing the monitor/docking layout.
If the NVR/VMS cannot connect to the URL, see NVR/VMS Cannot Find DeskCamera or Show Live Video. For port and firewall details, see Ports used by DeskCamera and Configuring firewall rules.
