Frequently Asked Question
Use this article if you want DeskCamera to capture computer playback audio through the Windows Stereo Mix recording device.
For the built-in DeskCamera audio options, including microphone input and Windows Sounds, see Enable Audio in DeskCamera Streams.
Enable Stereo Mix in Windows
1) Open Windows sound settings for recording devices.
2) Open the Recording tab.
3) Find Stereo Mix.
4) If it is disabled, enable it.
If Stereo Mix is not listed, right-click inside the recording-device list and enable showing disabled devices. If it still does not appear, the audio driver on that PC may not provide Stereo Mix.
Select Stereo Mix in DeskCamera
1) Close and reopen DeskCamera after enabling Stereo Mix in Windows.
2) Stop the camera if it is currently running. DeskCamera allows local Video & Audio Settings changes only while the camera is stopped.
3) Open Video & Audio Settings.
4) Select the media source that should include computer playback audio.
5) Open the Audio list and select the Stereo Mix device.
6) Start the camera again.
If there is no sound
- Play audio on the DeskCamera PC and confirm that Windows shows activity for Stereo Mix.
- Make sure the NVR/VMS is set to record or play audio for this camera.
- If the camera was already added to the NVR/VMS before audio was enabled, restart the camera or re-add it in the NVR/VMS so it detects the audio stream.
- If the NVR/VMS still has no sound, try changing the audio encoder. See Enable Audio in DeskCamera Streams.
