Frequently Asked Question

Enable Audio in DeskCamera Streams
Last Updated 2 days ago

Audio is disabled by default. Use this article to add audio to a DeskCamera stream.

Select an audio source

1) Open DeskCamera.

2) Stop the camera if it is currently running. DeskCamera allows local Video & Audio Settings changes only while the camera is stopped.

3) Open Video & Audio Settings.

4) Select the media source that should include microphone audio.

5) Open the Audio list and select the audio source you want to use.

6) Start the camera again.

Which audio option should I choose?

  • Default Microphone uses the current default recording device in Windows.
  • A named microphone uses that exact recording device, such as a USB headset or built-in microphone.
  • Select Audio means no audio is added to the stream.
  • Windows Sounds is for computer playback audio, not microphone input. For that setup, see Using System sounds audio in DeskCamera streams.

If the NVR/VMS has no sound

  • Make sure the selected audio source works in Windows.
  • Make sure the NVR/VMS is set to record or play audio for this camera.
  • If the camera was already added to the NVR/VMS before audio was enabled, restart the camera or re-add it in the NVR/VMS so it detects the audio stream.
  • If the NVR/VMS still has no sound, try changing the Audio Encoder. Some systems work better with G711, while others work better with AAC.
