Frequently Asked Question

Use this article to stream a source in H.265.

Important: H.265 streams do not work through ONVIF. Use H.265 only with the RTSP URL of the stream (the direct address of one stream). Check first that your NVR/VMS (the recording system) or video player can play H.265 over RTSP.

Turn on H.265

1. Click Stop.

2. Open Video & Audio Settings and select the source.

3. If the Encoder name does not end in (HW), choose High performance (HW) in the Encoder list. For an App window source, choose High performance Win10(HW).

4. If you changed the Encoder, DeskCamera asks to reset the stream settings of this source. Click Yes.

5. Click the settings button next to Encoder.

   

6. In Configure Encoder, select the stream, for example MainStream.

7. In Video Encoder, choose H265.

   

8. DeskCamera warns that H265 does not work with ONVIF and asks you to confirm. Click Yes.

   

9. Changes apply immediately. Click Close.

10. Click Start.

11. Copy the RTSP URL of the stream into your NVR/VMS or video player. See Copy the Direct RTSP URL of a Stream.

If it does not work

• If H265 is still missing when the Encoder name ends in (HW), the graphics card does not support H.265. See 1. System Requirements.
• If the NVR/VMS shows no video, your NVR/VMS cannot play H.265, or it uses ONVIF for this stream. Set Video Encoder back to H264.
